Breakfast Three – A tribute to Bali

by Julia Recker

It does not always have to be solid food. How about starting into the day with a super special and healthy green juice with a delicate fruity aroma? Sounds strange?
Well, first try then judge.
I had my first green juice last summer in Bali and totally underestimated how much I could benefit from this novel beverage with its unfamiliar colour.
You might believe that this kind of breakfast couldn’t satiate you but this juice actually contains a big variety of plant-food nutrients – yielding anything extra unnecessary! Loaded with energy boosting vitamins and cleansing minerals and even providing enough protein to get over the morning this could turn into your favorite breakfast option:

Detoxifying green juice
serves 2 large glasses

1 handful fresh baby spinach
1 large piece cucumber
1/4 avocado, stoned
1 piece banana
1 inch fresh ginger
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp ground turmeric
1 cup water
1/2 cup almond milk or plant milk of your choice (optional)

for the topping: coconut flakes

Mix all ingredients in a blender until smooth. If it feels too thick add more liquid. It might take a while until you get used to this unusual taste. Feel free to play around with the ingredients and adjust depending on personal tastes. I usually add some nut milk, pears, raisins, ground vanilla or agave to give a flavourful sweet touch. By now the green juice is a recipe I irreversibly incorporated in my breakfast selection. I regard it as a wonderful choice for monday mornings and thank the beautiful island of Bali for inspiring me.
Go crazy in your kitchen and fill your body with alkaline, hydrating, health-inducing liquids to re-balance!
Enjoy immediately – the fresher, the better.
